Brian Miller, CBCP CBCLA President & Founder
Brian Miller is a Partner at Vanguard EMC Inc, a thriving consultancy delivering best practice guidance for all aspects of emergency management and business continuity to government and enterprise clients throughout Canada. Brian is a certified business continuity professional as well as a certified lead auditor. He has completed the 400 level of ICS certification.
Prior to joining Vanguard EMC in 2001, Brian was the Director of Emergency Management and Business Continuity at Bell Canada for 12 years. He has extensive experience and leadership in telecommunications, labour relations, emergency management and business continuity.
He believes in sharing his accumulated knowledge by teaching business continuity and emergency management for the Disaster Recovery Institute and the Canada School of Public Service. Brian is a former instructor at the Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Sciences as well as Development Dimensions International. He has taught the disciplines of emergency management, business continuity, and crisis communications to over 5000 individuals since 1996.
Through his leadership at Vanguard EMC Inc., Brian has supported the development of effective and easy-to-use business continuity and emergency management plans for a wide variety of private and public sector organizations.
Brian’s has served as the President of the Disaster Recovery Institute Canada and the Canadian Centre for Emergency Preparedness for multiple terms. In 2015, he was awarded DRI CANADA's lifetime achievement award granted to a person who has demonstrated exceptional achievement within the Business Continuity and Technology Recovery(DR) industry. In March of 2016 at the DRI International Awards Gala held in Atlanta, Georgia, Brian became the first Canadian to receive the DRII Lifetime Achievement Award . Lisa Maddock, ABCP Director of Operations and Logistics
Lisa Maddock is the Director of Operations and Logistics at Vanguard EMC. In this role she manages all client facing activities as well as ensuring a high profile company presence at conferences and seminars. Lisa and her team of highly regarded professional consultants provide coaching, turn-key development as well as best-in-class training services to a wide variety of private and public sector organizations. To support her emergency management and business continuity responsibilities, Lisa is certified at the ABCP level by DRI CANADA and has completed the 400 level of ICS certification. She is widely respected for her in-depth knowledge of the design, facilitation and evaluation of business continuity and emergency plan exercises and tests.
Lisa joined Vanguard EMC in 2007 and over the ensuing years has worked through all the company administrative and consulting positions with enthusiasm and a strong customer focus. She is appreciated by clients and is frequently requested to fill specific consulting roles.
Cynthia Wenn, CBCP Associate Director of Operations and Client Relations
Cynthia has over fourteen years of experience in risk management and business continuity planning.
She spent several years underwriting a broad range of business risks while obtaining her Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation. In 2003, she joined Cognos Inc. and became responsible for leading, conceptualizing and advancing their risk management and business continuity initiatives. Cynthia joined the Vanguard team offically in 2011 as the business development manager.
Currently, she serves as Associate Director of Operations and Client Relations providing plan and program development for many key Vanguard clients on business continuity and emergency management projects. Cynthia has a passion for table top and simulation exercises and often delivers training for our FEDBCP and ICS courses.
She has obtained the Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) and the Incident Command 400 level designation. Cynthia has researched and created articles for the Center of Excellence on the DRI CANADA website, presented at DRIE Ottawa and Canadian Emergency Management Conferences.Cynthia was the lead researcher for the NWT Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment.
Stephen Mehta, Continuity Consultant In August 2014, Stephen Mehta joined the Vanguard team as a Continuity Consultant. Stephen completed a MIPIS (Master of Infrastructure Protection and International Security) at Carleton University in 2015. He provides business continuity planning and emergency management support to the consulting team in addition to addressing assignments at head office. His has completed the 300 level of ICS certification.
Carla St-Germain , ABCP Continuity Coordinator
Carla has excellent planning, research, report writing, editing, and facilitation skills as well as a background in emergency management and business continuity at the municipal level.
Responsible for working with various clients in both public and private sectors to create, review and exercise emergency management and business continuity plans.
Assisted a large private sector company with creating and implementing a business continuity program as the onsite project lead for recovery planning.
Reviewed client Business Continuity programs for gaps and areas for improvement based on recognized best practices (DRI, CSA-Z1600, Treasury Board Operational Security Standard and ISO-22301).
Created and evaluated Business Continuity and Emergency Management plan exercises for private and public sector clients; wrote comprehensive post-exercise reports.
Worked with a federal government client to recommend an emergency management and business continuity governance structure that conforms to IMS/ICS guidelines.
Provided editing and documentation support for Vanguard projects.
